Scouring the seabed around structures, through rough sea currents and vortex shedding can cause major issues for subsea foundations. Buried cables can also suffer from under or over-burial due to the changing shape of the seabed. The ability to accurately monitor and measure the extent of seabed disturbance and movement is a key consideration in managing assets.

At Ashtead Technology, we provide monitoring and remediation dredge systems to map the extent of erosion and offer a fleet of dredge pump systems which can be operated by ROV or diver to remediate the seabed around structures and localised cable work.

Acquiring precise dimensions for degradation, damage assessment and subsequent repair operations can be challenging, particularly underwater. Advances in subsea laser-based and photogrammetry technologies are having a significant impact on reducing time and costs.

A common characteristic of offshore energy production and power generation is the multitude of power cables both infield and from field-to-shore. Managing these cables requires periodic verification of the location and burial depth to ensure they are properly protected without overheating due to over-burial.

Ashtead Technology is a leading provider of seabed electromagnetic and sonar-based cable location solutions. By integrating multiple cable location systems with precise inertial position reference systems, we deliver highly precise and rapid inspections and recovery programmes, should repairs or remediation work be required.

Welaptega, an Ashtead Technology company, can assist with the subsea inspection and cleaning of marine power, data, and signal cables. The Riser/Rope Cleaning and Inspection System (RCIS) can be engineered to clean and inspect the surface of subsea tubular components such as flexible risers, marine cables, umbilicals and fibre/wire moorings.

The RCIS frame is towed by a ROV, efficiently cleaning both soft and hard marine growth. An optional module consisting of four cameras performs a full 360-degree close visual inspection of the riser or rope surface.

As assets age and deteriorate over time, it may be necessary to remove their protective coatings to assess their condition from a SA2.5/HB2.5 state, allowing the installation of repair clamps or for other works to be carried out. This requirement is becoming increasingly commonplace as structures around the world begin to reach the end of their working lives.
